The Encouraging Morning Glory ~Here’s your home~

It stops raining and a rainbow hangs in the sky. The colors red, blue, yellow and green. Sparkle like big bridge in the sky. These become like seeds and they flow gently into town and village.

Splash splash splash.
Sunao come here. Kosuke is into the river and he is looking for fishes. Sunao has caught strange fish while his hand is under the stone. The fish has a beard and big head. Kosuke has never seen like that before. Kosuke will be 6 years old soon.

The fish was catfish. He is swimming in a water tank.
Kousuke said, “His face is funny.”
His sister and his little brother also are pleased.
The catfish is popular with the 4 brothers.
One day Kousuke is feeding the catfish.
Sunao said, “What’s that?”
A red drop dropped in the water tank.
What happened?
Kousuke said, “What? I am not hit anywhere”. It is like he is dreaming.

Soon after Kousuke has nosebleeds and becomes feverish.
He used to come first in kindergarten. He was cheerful but he is beginning to feel weak.
His mom Mamiko is worried about him. She takes him to a big hospital. He has lots of tests. He has injections around his hips. The doctors had difficulty with a diagnosis.
Finally they found it -Leukemia. His mom Mamiko was very shocked at the news.

Kousuke began to fight disease from that day. He had to take a lot of different medicines. He lost all his hair because he has to take strong tablets. He told his mom during smile that he looked like a Buddhist priest. He strokes his head while looking in a mirror. Mamiko smiles to him but inside she is sad.

Summer is finished and it is beginning to be autumn but Kouskue couldn’t go home. He felt sick from the medicine and he couldn’t eat sometimes.
Kousuke’s dud and his brothers and sister came to him and they encouraged him.
One night Kousuke’s mom said gently “tablet time’.
Kousuke said “no no, no way. I hate to stay in hospital I want to go home. I want to go home”. For the first time he cried since he came to hospital.

Spring comes. He was looking forward to spring.
The doctor told him that he can go home. His mum feels like skipping.
He finished hard treatment long time of 8 months.
It is April.
He is now a new became grade 1 student and he is off to primary school.
Some students asked him can they touch his head?
Soon he is popular in school.
He has lots of friends in school.

It’s May and little bit windy.
He is cheerful and he feels his disease has gone.
He sows Morning Glory in class.
It is in bud and he says, “Grow up soon?”
He watered the morning glory carefully.
He asked his mom when will the morning glory bloom?
His mom said, “it’s around summer”.
Kousuke said, “mmm…”.
His eyes looked little bit lonely.

One night in star festival the bamboo leaves were swinging.
Kousuke wrote that he hopes he is better soon.
He was admittated to the hospital at the start of the summer holiday.
It was the medical treatment plan.

He began to fight disease from next day.
He lost his hair again because he took strong tablet.
One day his teacher came to see and she brought his morning glory.
She said, “Hear is your morning glory”.
She put his bowl beside his bed.
Kousuke said, “Wow! It’s beautiful, isn’t it! There are lots of duds.”
Teacher said, “I want to see you well and see cheerily soon”.
Kousuke said, “yes, I will”.
His face was shining for a long time.

It’s in September.
Go away disease. His mom prays every morning.
But he has a nightmare with a high fever and vomits.
His mom was rubbing hardly his back.
At night time his fever was down.
He saw lots of stars. He said, “It’s very beautiful”.
And he asked a small voice, “Will I die soon?”
He shed tears.

5 months later.
He had a high fever late at night.
He was breathing with difficulty.
His mom said, “Kousuke, Kousuke!”
And she was holding him in her arms but he didn’t open his eyes.

He was 7 years old.
His mom was crying after he has gone to heaven.
She said, “I’m sorry, I couldn’t do anything”.
She saw a corner of garden and she said in a small voice “oh”.
The pink morning glory was beginning to bloom and the breezes begins to blow.
She said, “This is his morning glory and this grew when he was alive. Kousuke was certainly alive”.
She touched it gently.

Sky of blue spread in the morning.
His mom got an important thing. It was seeds of morning glory.
She thought it will bloom-beautiful flower. It is like he is alive.

It is next spring.
She planted seeds and made the beautiful flower bloom one another this summer and they had more seeds in autumn.
She thought it is important gift from Kousuke he left instead of his life. I don’t have to waste it.

One day she knew about the Bone marrow bank.
She thought his seed is useful in bone marrow bank movement.
She loaded small bag and she distributed to everybody.

His gift is a small bag, called the Encouraging Morning Glory.
The seed make many people talk about how life is important through bone marrow bank movement.

She got a thank you letter.
“Thank you Kousuke’s mom-I know that life is important.”
The seed is small but it has bloomed all around the world.

Thanks a lot Kousuke. His mom looks up sky today too.
A white cloud is swelling and becomes his gentle face.

The end.
